Babcock University has reaffirmed its commitment to community safety, pledging stronger collaboration with the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) to improve security around its host communities in Ogun State.
The university’s President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Afolarin Ojewole, gave the assurance on Friday, October 23, 2026, during a courtesy visit by a 15-member PCRC delegation led by its chairman, Dr Kunle Popoola.
Ojewole said the safety of the university was closely connected to the security of its host communities, stressing the importance of collaboration between educational institutions, the police and residents.
He highlighted the university’s investment in security technology, including four high-altitude drones designed to reach 30,000 metres and monitor a 40-kilometre radius beyond the campus.
According to him, the drones have already been deployed and will remain available to support joint security efforts involving law enforcement agencies and host communities.
The vice-chancellor also commended the PCRC for its role in intelligence gathering and strengthening relations between the police and the public.
He said the university was ready to explore further areas of collaboration, including capacity building through its School of Law and Security Studies and Executive Education programmes.
Ojewole added that Babcock University would continue discussions with the committee on possible support for health facilities and other security-related initiatives.
During the meeting, Popoola commended the university for its support for the Nigeria Police Force, citing an instance in which its medical facility helped save the life of a wounded Divisional Police Officer in Ijebu Waterside.
He requested additional assistance for the newly established Ikenne Area Command and continued training opportunities for PCRC members.
The delegation also invited Ojewole to serve as patron of the committee. The vice-chancellor promised to review the request promptly and reiterated the university’s willingness to support PCRC initiatives.
The partnership is expected to strengthen cooperation in security intelligence, professional development and community policing, with both parties emphasising the importance of collective efforts to build safer communities.
