The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three secondary school students aged 12, 18 and 18 over a suspected cult initiation in Owode-Yewa, following intelligence about a planned gathering involving pupils from different schools.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, 23 October 2026, saying the operation foiled an activity reportedly tagged “Kito Day”.
According to the police, officers received information about the planned gathering on 22 October, prompting the Divisional Police Officer in Owode-Yewa to deploy detectives to the location.
The operation was carried out in collaboration with members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, leading to the arrest of the three students.
Police said officers recovered an English axe, two knives, a short cutlass, a rubber toy gun and a school bag during the operation. The items are suspected to be connected to the planned activity.
The command said the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The arrests have renewed concerns about the involvement of school-age children in suspected cult-related activities and the need for parents, school authorities, community leaders and security agencies to work together to prevent young people from being drawn into such groups.
The police have not disclosed the identities of the arrested students or confirmed whether they had formally joined a cult group. The allegations remain subject to investigation.
