EduTimes Africa had reported on Friday 12, 2024 that payment of the August stipend for student beneficiaries had suffered a delay. It quoted the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) which revealed that the delay was due to it “conducting necessary security checks to protect public funds and ensure that they are properly allocated to the right beneficiaries.”
It has now been confirmed that disbursement of the September stipend has commenced as some of the loan beneficiaries confirmed receipt on Sunday, September 15, 2024 bringing much needed relief to the students.
The monthly stipend which is intended to provide some succour to students and enable them to meet some of their daily expenses is an option made available to students to apply for, and which is separate to the loan paid directly to institutions to cover the applicant’s school fees.
The institutions said to have benefitted from the disbursement are Bayero University, Kano State; Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State; University of Ilorin, Kwara State; University of Benin, Edo State; University of Ibadan, Oyo State and University of Maiduguri, Borno State.
The development was celebrated by students across the country even though there has been a clamour recently to have the stipend raised to N40,000 from the current N20, 000 due to the very high inflation rate.
