The groundbreaking ceremony, held on July 13, was led by the President/Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Afolarin Ojewole, alongside the Vice President, Student Development, Prof. Tolani Williams, who also serves as the class sponsor. Other officials present included co-sponsors Pastor Muyiwa Oyinloye and Dr. Emmanuel Ikeagbu, while the graduating class was represented by Samuel Owoeye, Vice President of BCCE, and Favour Ohuche, Vice President of BUCODEL.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Ojewole stressed that the university would prioritise quality over speed in delivering the project.

“We are not going to rush to commission these projects, but be rest assured that the job will be well done and delivered. Class members can return five or ten years from now and see that their contribution made a lasting difference,” he said.

He praised the graduating class for investing in the institution, describing the initiative as a reflection of professionalism and a culture of giving back.

“While others destroy their school, Babcock students build theirs,” he added.

Beyond the pavilion project, the NOVA 2026 class is also renovating five gazebos located between the Samuel Akande Student Hall and the university cafeteria at the main campus. The project is expected to create a more conducive environment for relaxation, social interaction and outdoor learning.

Explaining the significance of the pavilion, Pastor Oyinloye said it is an upgraded replacement for a similar structure erected in 2019, which was damaged during a storm in 2023.

Project engineer Seun Omotosho disclosed that while the project was initially valued at ₦45 million, additional improvements may increase its scope.

The twin projects underscore the NOVA 2026 graduating class’s commitment to leaving a lasting legacy by enhancing sports, recreational and student welfare facilities for future generations at Babcock University.
