Miss Abidemi Olowofela Oluwabukola has been released from the Elele campus of Madonna University following widespread public concern and formal interventions by concerned Nigerians.
Her release was confirmed by Tope Temokun, Esq., counsel to the family, in a statement issued on March 3, 2026. According to the statement, the university management directed her release after petitions were submitted to appropriate authorities and public advocacy efforts gained momentum both within Nigeria and in the diaspora.
The family’s legal representative expressed appreciation to Nigerians who lent their voices, made calls, offered guidance, and advocated for the protection of the student’s dignity and rights.
“At this time, our immediate priority is her safe return home, emotional recovery, and restoration of stability after the distressing experience of the past days,” the statement read.
Abidemi is described as an outstanding academic performer. She reportedly earned five A1 grades in her O’Level examinations, scored 310 in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), and achieved a 5.0 CGPA in her 100-level medical studies.
Her counsel, however, raised concerns about the continuity of her medical education following the circumstances that led to her withdrawal from the institution. He called on educational institutions, philanthropic organizations, and well-meaning Nigerians to support efforts to ensure she resumes her studies without further interruption.
“No young Nigerian of such proven academic excellence should have her future disrupted,” the statement noted.
The family also acknowledged individuals who have pledged or provided financial support and assured supporters of transparent communication regarding the next steps in her academic journey.
