The Government of Côte d’Ivoire has announced plans to deploy more than 1,200 newly trained mathematics and physical science teachers across the country beginning Monday, April 13, 2026, in a renewed effort to address persistent shortages in secondary school education.

The Minister of National Education, Literacy and Technical Education, N’Guessan Koffi, disclosed this during a briefing at the Technical and Vocational High School of Ebimpé, where he issued final deployment instructions to candidates admitted under an exceptional recruitment programme.
According to the Ministry, 1,021 middle school teachers were successfully recruited out of 1,082 admitted candidates, while 61 were absent. In the senior secondary category, 191 high school teachers were selected from 214 admitted candidates, with 23 absentees recorded.
The newly recruited teachers have completed two weeks of intensive pedagogical training ahead of their nationwide deployment.
Officials said the initiative is part of government efforts to close the long-standing gap in science education staffing at both junior and senior secondary school levels, a challenge that has affected learning outcomes in recent years.
Minister Koffi expressed appreciation to President Alassane Ouattara and other government stakeholders for their support, adding that discussions are ongoing to fully integrate the recruits into the public service after a two-year evaluation period.
As part of the deployment package, the Ministry outlined support measures including an installation allowance of 75,000 CFA francs, monthly salaries of 150,000 CFA francs for middle school teachers, and 175,000 CFA francs for high school teachers. Accommodation support will also be provided through ministry arrangements.
In addition, 500 physics and chemistry graduates trained at the Centre for Animation and Pedagogical Training (CAFOP) in Yamoussoukro are expected to be deployed to further strengthen science teaching across the country.
The government said the initiative marks a significant step toward improving the quality of science education and strengthening human capacity in the education sector nationwide.
