ABUJA — In a major initiative spearheaded by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education (OSSAP-TVEE), led by Dr. Abiola Arogundade, the Federal Government, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda, has flagged off a nationwide technology and skill-acquisition campaign under the National Poverty Reduction with Growth Strategy (NPRGS).
The ambitious drive combines state-specific vocational and high-tech training with a massive rollout of 400,000 digital devices, which translates President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to equip Nigerian youth, technical students, and entrepreneurs with the practical capabilities needed to compete in the global economy.
The empowerment initiative kicks off its intensive hands-on training sessions on Monday, 28th September, in Oyo State, before expanding to Kebbi State on October 26 and subsequently moving to Enugu State. The empowerment will cover all 36 states of the federation, delivering skills that are specifically aligned with regional economic advantages:
● Oyo State: Fashion Design, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Graphic Design, and Makeup Artistry.
● Enugu State: Artificial Intelligence (AI), Fashion Design, and Renewable Solar Energy Installation.
● Kebbi & Subsequent States: Customised technical, digital, and entrepreneurial modules designed to local enterprise needs.
To complement the technical training and ensure long-term sustainability, the Office is overseeing the deployment of 400,000 digital devices across the federation.
The rollout commences in Oyo State, where the first batch of 500 digital devices will be distributed to participants, setting a baseline model to be replicated state-by-state throughout the programme’s expansion.
Recognising that effective policy execution relies on transparent communication, Dr. Arogundade’s office extended the device distribution directly to media representatives at the Abuja briefing.
By equipping journalists with the same digital devices, the initiative ensures media professionals gain first-hand experience with the technology, enabling informed reporting and active participation in the training modules as the empowerment progresses.
