The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has introduced a new procedure allowing candidates to change their registered telephone numbers and email addresses where they have lost access to the details previously linked to their profiles.
The new arrangement takes effect from Monday, September 21, 2026, and is expected to assist candidates who have lost their registered SIM cards or can no longer access their registered email accounts.
JAMB’s Acting Director, Public Affairs and Protocols, Dr Fabian Benjamin, announced the development in a statement, explaining that the revised policy was introduced following improvements in the Board’s identity authentication and biometric verification systems.
For several years, JAMB had restricted changes to candidates’ registered GSM numbers and email addresses because of concerns that such changes could expose candidates’ profiles to fraud, impersonation and unauthorised access.
Under the new arrangement, however, candidates with genuine reasons for changing their registered details can now apply through a controlled verification process.
JAMB said the measure was designed to ensure that candidates who lose access to their credentials through circumstances beyond their control are not prevented from accessing important UTME and admission-related services.
The Board stressed that the concession would not be available for repeated changes. Each candidate will be permitted to use the SIM swap and/or email change service only once.
### Where candidates can change their details
JAMB said the service would be available only at designated JAMB Computer-Based Test centres, including Professional Test Centres (PTC), Professional Registration Centres (PRC) and State Offices where applicable.
Candidates are expected to provide the new GSM number and/or email address they wish to register.
They must also obtain and submit a duly executed court affidavit, which must be scanned and uploaded as part of the verification process.
### Steps to change JAMB registered details
Candidates are required to first log into their JAMB e-Facility profile using their existing credentials, such as their email address, registration number or profile code.
They should then select the “SIM Swap/eMail Change Payment” option and pay the prescribed fee.
After payment, the candidate must visit a designated JAMB CBT, PTC or PRC centre and access the SIM Swap/eMail Change Quicklink.
The candidate will enter their profile code or existing GSM number and select “Fetch Details”.
Biometric verification will then be conducted before the candidate selects the required service. The available options are GSM number only, email address only, or both GSM number and email address.
The candidate will subsequently enter the new telephone number and/or email address and upload the scanned court affidavit before selecting “Update”.
A confirmation message will be displayed once the change has been successfully completed.
JAMB warned candidates against using unauthorised agents or outlets for the service, urging them to follow the approved procedure through designated centres.
The Board said the policy review was aimed at improving service delivery while maintaining safeguards around candidates’ personal information and examination records.
The new arrangement will particularly benefit candidates who need access to their JAMB profiles for UTME results, admission processing, profile updates and other Board-related services but have lost access to their previously registered telephone numbers or email accounts.
