The management of Lagos State University has commenced an investigation into allegations that some lecturers failed to upload students’ examination results, a development reportedly leaving affected students at risk of delayed graduation and additional years of study.

The controversy emerged following claims on social media that more than 100 students were unable to graduate at the university’s last convocation because a lecturer allegedly failed to upload some of their results dating back to their 300-level studies.

According to the allegations, some students who completed their required courses may now have to spend an additional year at the institution because their results have not been uploaded.

The issue gained wider attention after an X user, @TheAjakeManger, raised concerns that the problem extended beyond the initially reported students.

The user alleged that a Head of Department had threatened some affected students and claimed that students currently in 400 level were also facing similar academic challenges.

“Dear @jidesanwoolu, they are now threatening the students and it’s not just this set that are affected. The current 400l are also facing the same setback,” the user wrote.

The user further claimed that more than 1,000 students across 200, 300 and 400 levels in the department were experiencing related problems.

LASU Responds

LASU management acknowledged the allegations in a post on its official X account on Saturday and said it had commenced efforts to establish the facts surrounding the matter.

“The attention of the University Management has been drawn to this allegation, and the matter is currently being looked into,” the university stated.

The development has also attracted the attention of the National Association of Nigerian Students.

NANS President, Akinteye Babatunde, said the student body, alongside the Joint Campus Committee, Lagos Axis, had opened discussions with LASU management over the issue.

He urged affected students to remain calm, saying the university management had assured student leaders that the matter would be addressed the following week.

“To all @LASUOfficial students that are affected with this, please remain calm as discussions have been opened with the management by the leadership of NANS and JCC LAGOS AXIS,” Babatunde said.

Your Certificate Is Not Enough! Your Certificate Is Not Enough! Your Certificate Is Not Enough!

He added that students should avoid taking actions that could worsen the situation while discussions with the university continue.

The university’s investigation is expected to determine the extent of the alleged missing results, establish responsibility and clarify the impact of the issue on the graduation status of affected students.
