Port Louis, 6 May 2025 – Government of Mauritius
The Minister of Education and Human Resource, Dr. Mahend Gungapersad, met today with a delegation from Yamaha Music Gulf FZE and the Japanese Ambassador to Mauritius, Mr. Masahiro Kan, to explore the integration of music education in Mauritius’ primary schools.
The Yamaha team introduced the Yamaha School Project, a global initiative that supports instrumental music education in elementary schools, already active in countries such as Egypt, Colombia, Vietnam, and India.
Minister Gungapersad praised the initiative for its potential to boost creativity and non-cognitive development among young learners. However, he emphasized the need for thoughtful planning before implementing the program locally.
He also acknowledged Japan’s support of the ongoing Kaizen project and reaffirmed Mauritius’ commitment to deepening bilateral relations with Japan.
