The newly appointed Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Segun Aina, has officially assumed office, unveiling a comprehensive five-year strategic agenda aimed at strengthening the Board’s digital transformation, improving service delivery and reinforcing public confidence in Nigeria’s admissions system.

Speaking on his first day in office, Prof. Aina described his appointment as “a homecoming and a solemn responsibility,” pledging to build on the achievements of his predecessor, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, while introducing innovative reforms that will position JAMB as Africa’s most trusted, technology-driven and accessible assessment and admissions institution.

The new roadmap, titled “JAMB 2031: Building Trust, Reducing Trauma,” covers the period from 2026 to 2031 and is built around two strategic objectives, five core pillars and seven flagship initiatives designed to modernise the Board’s operations.

Prof. Aina said the agenda aligns with JAMB’s statutory responsibility of ensuring fair, transparent and merit-based admission into tertiary institutions through credible registration, examination and placement processes.

Five pillars of the reform agenda

The Registrar explained that the transformation plan would be driven by five key pillars.

The Integrity pillar focuses on strengthening institutional credibility through internationally recognised standards, including ISO 27001 Information Security Certification, independent technology reviews and transparent operational systems.

Under the Service pillar, JAMB plans to improve customer experience through better communication, faster service delivery and stronger engagement with candidates, parents, tertiary institutions and other stakeholders.

The Governance pillar seeks to enhance institutional accountability through stronger performance monitoring, efficient contract management and improved internal oversight.

For Technology, the Board plans to expand its digital infrastructure by deploying scalable mobile and web platforms, paperless systems, artificial intelligence and data analytics to improve decision-making and service delivery.

The fifth pillar, Partnerships, aims to deepen collaboration with financial institutions, fintech companies, educational organisations and international partners to support innovation and improve service delivery.

Seven flagship initiatives

To achieve these objectives, Prof. Aina announced seven major initiatives to be implemented over the next five years:

Independent review of JAMB’s technology infrastructure.

Attainment of ISO 27001 Information Security Certification.

Development of a unified JAMB mobile application.

Strategic communication and brand repositioning.

Establishment of a unified customer service platform.

Full transition to a paperless digital administration system.

Enhanced staff welfare and capacity development.

According to the Registrar, these initiatives will make JAMB more secure, efficient, digitally integrated and responsive to the needs of candidates and other stakeholders.

Focus on people and trust

Prof. Aina stressed that although technology would remain central to JAMB’s future, the Board would continue to prioritise people.

He noted that every registration represents the hopes of a young Nigerian and the sacrifices of parents and guardians, assuring stakeholders that his administration would simplify processes, improve communication and uphold fairness, transparency and integrity.

He also urged members of staff to embrace innovation, professionalism and teamwork, saying enduring institutions are built on strong systems, shared values and collective commitment.

The new Registrar reaffirmed his commitment to building a resilient institution that strengthens public trust and positions JAMB as a global benchmark in technology-driven examination and admissions administration.
