In a strategic effort to bolster academic collaboration and foster international partnerships, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) played host to a high-level delegation from the University of Venda, South Africa, on Thursday, May 8, 2025.
Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, was Professor Muyiwa Falaiye, UNILAG’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services). He emphasized that the visit marks a critical step in expanding UNILAG’s global engagement, particularly in promoting impactful academic and research linkages.
Professor Falaiye reaffirmed the institution’s dedication to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the two universities, stressing the importance of breaking down barriers and broadening knowledge exchange across continents.
Leading the visiting team, Dr. Joel Baloyi, Registrar of the University of Venda, commended UNILAG for its achievements in innovation, cultural development, and institutional integrity. “These strides make UNILAG a respected name in the global academic community,” he noted. Dr. Baloyi also disclosed that the delegation aimed to assess the progress made under the existing MOU and explore additional areas of mutual interest.
Also present to welcome the visitors was UNILAG’s Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mrs. Victoria Wickliffe. She reiterated the university’s commitment to multidisciplinary research, international knowledge sharing, and developmental initiatives.
The visit was facilitated by UNILAG’s Office of International Relations, Partnerships and Prospects (IRPP), with a focus on strengthening cooperation between both institutions.
