Three exceptional students from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have clinched a coveted spot in the finals of The Nigerian Genius: Campus Edition 2025, one of the nation’s premier engineering competitions.
The finalists—Sanyaolu Motunrayo and Isokpunwu Orobosa, both from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Abanum Oliseyenum from the Department of Mechanical Engineering—will proudly represent UNILAG at the national stage, showcasing innovation, technical depth, and teamwork.
The trio secured their place in the finals through a captivating video presentation that demonstrated their mastery in Embedded Systems, Internet of Things (IoT), Computer-Aided Design (CAD), and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM). Their submission reflected both academic strength and practical readiness to address real-world engineering challenges.
Organized by the Clintonel Innovation Centre, the Nigerian Genius: Campus Edition is designed to identify and empower Nigeria’s most promising engineering students. The 2025 finals will take place at the Advanced Engineering Centre (AEC) in Aba, Abia State, where participants will engage in intensive, hands-on challenges involving PCB Design, Fabrication, Welding, CAD/CAM, and more.
Notably, the competition advocates for gender inclusion in STEM by actively encouraging female participation—an ethos reflected in the UNILAG team’s composition.
Their advancement marks not just a personal achievement but also a testament to UNILAG’s rising profile as a hub for engineering excellence and innovation in Africa.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, OON, FAS, praised the students for their remarkable feat and extended heartfelt congratulations on behalf of the university community.
“Great Akokites! Be great indeed and make us proud,” she said in a celebratory note to the finalists.
