The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has warned all professional and examination bodies in Nigeria to stop the illegal conduct and award of National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) certificates.
NBTE’s Executive Secretary, Prof. Idris Bugaje, gave the warning in a statement issued on Thursday in Kaduna through the board’s Head of Media, Mrs Fatima Abubakar.
Bugaje expressed concern over some bodies designing and awarding ND and HND certificates without legal approval, describing such actions as illegal and a violation of the NBTE Act.
He reminded the public that only the NBTE is empowered by law to approve, accredit, and regulate all ND and HND programmes in Nigeria.
The board said only accredited polytechnics, colleges of health, nursing, agriculture, and other technical institutions are authorised to run such programmes.
NBTE warned it would take legal action against any body involved in the illegal practice and urged the public to comply with existing regulations.
