About the UM Global Studies Scholarship
The Global Studies Bachelor’s Programme at Maastricht University prepares students to understand and address complex global challenges that cut across disciplinary and geographical boundaries.
This programme is unique in the Netherlands, with six faculties contributing equally to its interdisciplinary curriculum.
Through the UM Global Studies Scholarship, students will:
Conduct field research in the Global South
Develop real-world interventions for societal challenges presented by NGOs, governments, firms, or schools
Write an interdisciplinary bachelor’s thesis

Eligibility Requirements (2026)
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
Be a national of a Global South country (Africa, Asia including the Middle East, Latin America, or the Caribbean, as defined by the OECD)
Not hold dual nationality from a Global North country
Have never enrolled in a degree-seeking higher education programme in the Netherlands
(Exchange programme participants may apply)
Be 35 years old or younger as of 1 September 2026
Be willing to serve as a Global Studies and UM ambassador during and after studies
Have applied for admission to the Global Studies Bachelor’s Programme (2026–2027) at Maastricht University
