The Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Mr Akintunde Sawyerr, has paid an official working visit to Bayero University Kano as part of ongoing stakeholder engagement and institutional outreach aimed at strengthening the implementation of the student loan scheme.
The visit forms part of NELFUND’s strategic drive to deepen collaboration with tertiary institutions across Nigeria and ensure the seamless rollout of the student financing programme.
During the engagement, Mr Sawyerr and members of his management team held discussions with the university’s leadership. The meeting focused on operational progress, institutional alignment, and practical mechanisms for improving access to higher education through sustainable financing.
The dialogue also provided an avenue to review implementation experiences so far, address key operational insights, and strengthen mutual understanding between both institutions on effective delivery of the scheme.
Speaking during the visit, the NELFUND MD/CE reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness in expanding educational opportunities for Nigerian students. He stressed the importance of universities as critical partners in ensuring that eligible students benefit from the scheme.
According to him, stronger institutional collaboration will enhance efficiency in processing applications and improve the overall impact of the student loan initiative.
The visit underscores NELFUND’s broader vision of building a robust and accessible student financing system designed to empower young Nigerians and support national development.
