The AU–EU Summit Model 2026 is a dynamic and impactful youth-focused initiative designed to simulate high-level diplomatic engagement between Africa and Europe. Organized by the European Union Delegation to the African Union, in collaboration with Model AU–Ethiopia and the African Union Commission’s Women, Gender and Youth Directorate (WGYD), the program will take place at the African Union Commission Headquarters from May 12–13, 2026.
Positioned strategically between Europe Day (May 9) and Africa Day (May 25), the Summit Model highlights the importance of youth engagement in shaping the future of intercontinental cooperation. The initiative provides a unique platform for young leaders to step into the roles of Ministers, Ambassadors, Heads of State, Commissioners, and senior policymakers, thereby gaining firsthand experience in international diplomacy and governance.
Participants will actively engage in discussions centered around the core pillars of the AU–EU Partnership, including multilateralism, peace and security, governance, green transition, economic cooperation, education, and people-to-people exchanges. Through structured debates, negotiations, and collaborative problem-solving sessions, delegates will develop practical policy recommendations aimed at strengthening relations between the two continents. These recommendations will be shared with AU and EU officials, contributing youth-driven perspectives to ongoing global policy dialogues.
Beyond the simulation, the program serves as a powerful capacity-building experience. Delegates enhance their skills in leadership, teamwork, negotiation, critical thinking, and public speaking. It also deepens their understanding of key frameworks such as Agenda 2063 and the AU–EU Joint Vision for 2030, fostering a generation of informed and proactive global citizens.
Eligible applicants include nationals of AU or EU member states who are between 17 and 30 years old, including pre-college students, university students, and recent graduates. Applicants are expected to demonstrate proficiency in English or French, as well as a strong passion for continental development, youth empowerment, and international cooperation.
Participation in the AU–EU Summit Model is free of charge, with organizers covering program-related costs and meals. However, participants are responsible for their own travel, accommodation, and personal expenses.
Overall, the AU–EU Summit Model 2026 represents a significant opportunity for young people to engage directly with global issues, expand their networks, and contribute meaningfully to shaping the future of Africa–Europe relations.
