A tragic incident has been reported at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), Delta State, where a 100-level student allegedly stabbed his biological brother to death during a dispute over a pair of bathroom slippers.
The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday evening at Hostel C within the university campus.
According to eyewitness accounts from students, the altercation began as a minor disagreement between the two brothers—both students of the institution—before escalating into violence.
The suspect, identified simply as Joshua, was said to have picked up a bottle during the argument and stabbed his brother, inflicting fatal injuries.
The victim was quickly rushed for medical attention but was confirmed dead shortly after. His body has since been deposited in a mortuary.
Sources further revealed that Joshua fled the scene immediately after the attack and is currently on the run as security operatives intensify efforts to apprehend him.
The incident has thrown the university community into shock, with students describing it as a heartbreaking outcome of a seemingly trivial dispute.
As of the time of reporting, the management of FUPRE had not issued an official statement, while the Delta State Police Command confirmed the incident, noting that investigations are ongoing and the motive is yet to be fully established.
