Reports circulating on social media that Dr. Aderemi Adeagbo has been appointed as the new Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Osun State Polytechnic (OSPOLY), Iree, remain unconfirmed, as authoritative sources within the institution insist that no official announcement has been made regarding the position.
The reports, which went viral on Thursday, claimed that Dr. Adeagbo had succeeded Dr. Idowu Akinrosoye as the department’s Head. However, multiple sources familiar with developments in the department told our correspondent that while Dr. Adeagbo is widely regarded as the next in line for the office, the appointment has not been formally ratified or announced by the Polytechnic.
A senior source in the department, who requested anonymity because they were not authorised to speak on the matter, said only the appointment of Dr. Idowu Akinrosoye as Dean of the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (FICT) has been officially confirmed.
According to the source, although the transition in the department is expected to follow established procedures, it would be premature to declare anyone as the substantive Head of Department until the institution issues an official communication.
The development has generated widespread reactions among students, alumni and members of the Polytechnic community, with congratulatory messages already pouring in for Dr. Adeagbo across various social media platforms despite the absence of an official confirmation.
As of the time of filing this report, the management of Osun State Polytechnic had not issued any statement confirming the appointment of a new Head of the Department of Mass Communication.
Edutimes Africa will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as soon as an official announcement is made by the institution.
