Academic activities have been disrupted at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo State, following the commencement of an indefinite strike by the institution’s chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The industrial action began on Thursday, October 29, 2026, after the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the university management over unresolved financial and administrative demands.
The union is demanding the implementation of the December 2025 Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN)-ASUU Agreement, including the payment of consequential arrears dating back to January 2026.
Other outstanding financial demands include the immediate payment of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) and promotion arrears covering the period between 2013 and 2025.
ASUU said the university’s Governing Council had formally accepted and approved the implementation of the December 2025 agreement. However, it accused the management of delaying implementation, citing inadequate funds.
Beyond the financial issues, the union is seeking the resolution of administrative and governance concerns involving the Vice-Chancellor and university management.
These include the composition of the Staff Disciplinary Committee, the reconstitution of the Committee of Provosts and Deans, and concerns about transparency in the university’s electronic voting system.
In a statement jointly signed by the branch Chairperson, Professor Olujimi Dada, and Secretary, Dr Soji Arinola, ASUU expressed dissatisfaction with the failure to resolve the issues despite several formal and informal engagements with the university management.
The union said it had exhausted available avenues for dialogue before deciding to embark on the indefinite industrial action.
It urged its members to remain united throughout the strike and disregard information or directives not issued directly by the branch chairperson.
The union further emphasised that only directives communicated by the branch chairperson should be regarded as authentic during the industrial action.
