Ghana’s Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) and the Ghana Education Service (GES), is set to launch a new senior high school (SHS) curriculum for the 2024-2025 academic year.
This innovative curriculum will be implemented across Senior High Schools, Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS), and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) institutions nationwide.
The development of this curriculum has been a major collaborative effort, engaging over 300 experts and drawing insights from extensive stakeholder consultations.
According to NaCCA’s Director-General, Prof. Yayra Dzakadzie, the curriculum introduces a transformative shift in Ghana’s education system.
It focuses on cultivating critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving abilities, all while fostering Ghanaian values and pride among students.
Prof. Dzakadzie emphasised that the curriculum is designed to equip learners with essential skills for the modern world, laying a solid foundation for higher education and preparing them for future careers.
This initiative aims to prepare students not only for academic success but also for responsible, impactful adult lives.
To ensure successful implementation, the Ministry of Education has prioritised teacher preparation, organising weekly Professional Learning Community (PLC) sessions and developing comprehensive teacher manuals.
These resources will support educators in effectively delivering the new curriculum.
With its emphasis on 21st-century skills, work readiness, and national pride, this curriculum promises to redefine the future of Ghanaian education.
The rollout will mark a significant step forward in nurturing a generation of students who are well-prepared to contribute positively to society and drive Ghana’s progress.
