The United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER) has announced the 2024 Visiting Scholars Programme.
This initiative offers academics the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research on development and global economic issues.
Benefits:
Scholars accepted into the programme will receive a monthly stipend of EUR 3,250 to support their travel, accommodation, visa, and other personal expenses. Additionally, UNU-WIDER provides medical insurance to cover hospital and medical services for the duration of their stay. Scholars may also apply for a supplementary grant to cover travel costs exceeding EUR 1,200, particularly for visa-related travel, although the programme does not offer financial support for dependents.
Eligibility:
The programme is open to scholars holding a PhD in economics or a related discipline. While applicants with a strong publication record are preferred, early-career researchers, female scholars, and applicants from developing countries are strongly encouraged to apply. Research proposals that align with UNU-WIDER’s current research themes will be given priority, although the programme remains open to proposals on various development-related topics.
Application process:
Applications for the Visiting Scholars Programme are submitted online, with a single annual deadline. Applicants must complete an online application form, which will be made available on 1 September 2024. As part of the application process, candidates are required to submit a curriculum vitae (CV) through the online portal. If technical difficulties arise, applicants may alternatively email their CVs to scholars1(at)wider.unu.edu.
Application deadline: September 30, 2024.
