There was relief on Friday as all the pupils and teachers abducted in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State regained their freedom following a rescue operation by security agencies.
The development was announced by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a post on his official social media handle.
“Finally, all the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo have been rescued by our security agencies.”»
The abduction had raised fresh concerns over the safety of schools, pupils and teachers, with education stakeholders calling for stronger security measures to protect learning environments and prevent disruptions to academic activities.
While the successful rescue has brought relief to families, school communities and residents, details of the operation, the condition of the rescued victims, and when they will resume academic activities are yet to be disclosed.
