The Dyslexia Foundation Nigeria has announced the launch of its 2025 Dyslexia Awareness Campaign themed “Raising the Volume: Amplifying Awareness and Understanding of Dyslexia.”
The campaign, which runs throughout October Dyslexia Awareness Month, seeks to deepen public understanding, promote inclusion, and push for policy reforms to support learners with dyslexia across Nigeria.
Dyslexia, a learning difference that affects reading, writing, and spelling, impacts one in five schoolchildren and up to 50 per cent of juveniles in correctional facilities, yet remains largely misunderstood and undiagnosed.
According to the Foundation, the 2025 campaign will:
Raise public awareness about dyslexia as a learning difference, not a disability or disease.
Empower teachers and parents through workshops and training on inclusive learning strategies.
Provide free screeners and assessments to identify learning challenges in public and selected private schools.
Advocate for policy reforms that promote inclusive education and early intervention.
Speaking on the campaign, Mr. Ben Arikpo, Executive Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Dyslexia Foundation Nigeria, described Raising the Volume as “more than a campaign — it’s a call to action.”
> “We are amplifying the voices of learners, parents, and educators to ensure dyslexia is no longer ignored or misunderstood,” he said.
Arikpo called on media organisations, educators, policymakers, and the general public to join the Foundation in advancing understanding and inclusion for learners with dyslexia.
