The Governing Council of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has announced the appointment of Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, a renowned soil ecosystem expert, as the new Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
Prof. Ogunwole, who currently serves as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Strategic Partnership, Research, Innovation, and Linkages), will assume office as FUOYE’s fifth substantive Vice-Chancellor in February 2026. He succeeds Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, whose tenure is coming to an end.
In a statement released by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Foluso Ogunmodede, the appointment was ratified at a meeting of the Governing Council held on Thursday, November 6, and presided over by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba (SAN).
“Today, Thursday, November 6, 2025, brings to an end a very long and rigorous process of selecting a new Vice-Chancellor for FUOYE,” the statement read.
According to the Pro-Chancellor, the search process, which began in August with a national call for applications, was thorough and transparent. He urged all stakeholders to put aside differences and support the new administration in building on the university’s achievements.
“The appointment should bring an end to all rancour and acrimony surrounding the process,” Ndoma-Egba said. “I call on all applicants and members of the university community to unite behind the new Vice-Chancellor to move FUOYE forward.”
He also commended outgoing Vice-Chancellor Prof. Fasina for his outstanding service and infrastructural achievements, describing him as a leader who leaves office “with confidence and his head held high.”
“You have done well and distinguished yourself among your predecessors,” the Pro-Chancellor added.
Following the announcement, the Governing Council formally presented Prof. Ogunwole with his letter of appointment.
