The 1995 set of Kings College, Lagos, has begun the renovation and modernisation of the school’s Physics Laboratory—30 years after they graduated from the institution that shaped their early lives.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, a member of the set, Dr. Mani Barminas, said the project was both a celebration of their anniversary and a tribute to classmates who had passed on.
“We hope this gives their families some peace. We remember them always,” he said.
Barminas explained that the group chose the Physics Laboratory because physics remains a core science subject and a foundation for careers in engineering and medicine.
“A good number of us are engineers; I am a medical doctor. We felt it was appropriate to start with physics. Hopefully, we will do more,” he added.
He recalled their early years in the college, saying, “About 35 years ago, we arrived here as young boys. Today, we are back to give back to the school that helped shape who we are.”
He noted that the Class of 1995 planned to work with other sets to support more development projects in the future.
The Principal of Kings College, Mr. Zachariah Magaji, described the gesture as timely and impactful, noting that the lab had long outlived its usefulness.
“This structure needed rehabilitation and modern tools. The Class of 1995 saw this need and acted,” he said.
Magaji praised the old boys for reconnecting with their alma mater.
“If there were a word bigger than ‘thank you’, we would have used it. This effort is not just about fixing a building—it is about building the future and strengthening the bond between generations,” he added.
