The Old Students’ Association of St Philip’s Anglican Grammar School (SPAGS), Arubidi, Ile-Ife, 2005 Set, has marked its 20th anniversary with a special celebration held on the school premises. The event featured the recognition of former Principal, Mrs J.A. Adebiyi, and former teacher, Mr I.O. Omofare, for the remarkable impact they made on the students during their formative years.
As part of the anniversary activities, the 2005 Set repainted the school entrance, distributed more than 400 exercise books, and rewarded the top three SS1 students for their outstanding performance in the recently concluded Junior WAEC examinations, as well as for demonstrating exemplary character. The students received cash prizes.
Addressing attendees, the current principal encouraged students to emulate the example set by the old students by showing love and giving back to their community in the future.
Former Principal, Mrs Adebiyi, urged students to listen attentively to their teachers and obey school rules. Mr Omofare echoed the well-known saying, “Make hay while the sun shines,” advising students to strike a healthy balance between work and leisure, and to respect their parents, teachers, and elders to ensure success in life.
Both honourees expressed gratitude to the 2005 Set for remembering and celebrating them, offering prayers for the continued progress of the group.
In his remarks, the 2005 Set Coordinator, Mr Oluwaseyi Akinsola (Sportman), thanked the current principal, vice-principal, and staff for warmly receiving them. He also praised the former principal and Mr Omofare for the love and discipline they instilled during their school days—values he described as unforgettable. He reaffirmed the set’s commitment to continually support their alma mater.
The event drew a large turnout of male and female members of the SPAGS 2005 Set, who added colour and vibrancy to the school environment.
