The United Kingdom has taken a significant step in enhancing its partnership with Nigeria by inaugurating the largest visa application center in Africa, located in Lagos.
The center was officially launched through the UK’s new commercial partner, VFS Global, underscoring the UK’s commitment to providing world-class visa services to Nigerian applicants.
A statement from the British High Commission on Wednesday announced that Nigerians traveling to the UK can now enjoy streamlined services at state-of-the-art Visa Application Centers (VACs) in Ikeja and Victoria Island, Lagos, as well as in Abuja.
These centers have been operational since November 19.
At the launch event in Ikeja, British Deputy High Commissioner Jonny Baxter expressed enthusiasm about the development. “I am delighted to witness the opening of this, the largest visa application center in Africa.
Nigeria remains one of the UK’s most important partners, and we look forward to VFS Global delivering improved services for all visa applicants,” he stated.
Marc Owen, Director of Visa, Status, and Information Services at UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI), emphasized the milestone’s significance, saying, “The opening of our new VAC in Ikeja is an exciting achievement.
In the year to June 2024, we processed over 225,000 UK visas for Nigerian nationals across various categories. This initiative reflects our ongoing dedication to making visa services accessible and efficient.”
Alok Singhal, Head of Sub-Saharan Africa at VFS Global, highlighted the organization’s long-standing relationship with UKVI since 2003. “We are thrilled to strengthen our partnership with UKVI. This center allows us to provide Nigerian travelers with premium services that enhance their application experience,” he said.
The UK remains a top destination for African travelers, with Nigerians accounting for 5% of global UK visit visa applications.
The new VACs offer a range of optional services, including document upload assistance, SMS notifications, and a “Keep My Passport While Applying” service, ensuring greater convenience for applicants. Additionally, Abuja residents can opt for an On Demand Mobile Visa service, enabling submissions from their preferred location.
VFS Global’s expanded partnership with UKVI now extends visa services to 142 countries, showcasing its expertise and commitment to excellence.
