The Senate of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has elected Professor Muyiwa Falaiye as the institution’s new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC), Management Services.
Professor Falaiye, a renowned scholar of African Philosophy, currently serves as the Director of the Institute of African and Diaspora Studies (IADS) at UNILAG. He is also the Chairman of the University’s Housing Committee and a former Dean of the Faculty of Arts.
His election took place during a statutory Senate meeting held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. Through an electronic voting system, he secured 210 out of 252 votes—representing 83% of the total vote cast.
Pending ratification by the University’s Governing Council, Professor Falaiye will serve a two-year term in his new role.
A Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Letters (FNAL), Professor Falaiye’s academic interests span African Studies, Political Philosophy, Philosophical Sagacity, and the Philosophy of Development.
