What If Marking Hundreds of Exams Took Minutes Instead of Days? Nigerian Startup Acad AI Is Making It Possible
Edutimes Africa Job Portal Edutimes Africa Job Portal Edutimes Africa Job Portal

For many educators, the hardest part of an exam is not setting the questions. It is what comes after. Hundreds of scripts have to be marked, scores calculated, feedback written, results checked and, eventually, released. For a lecturer handling several classes, or a school preparing end-of-term results, this can quickly become days of repetitive work.
Nigerian EdTech startup Acad AI is transforming this narrative. When EduTimes Africa first spotlighted founder Anjolaoluwa Ajayi and Acad AI’s mission to reimagine assessment, the platform was a simple grading assistant that was helping hundreds of university lecturers create, administer, and grade assessments, including the theory questions that have traditionally required hours of manual marking.

Today, Acad AI has evolved into a robust, enterprise-grade assessment ecosystem serving schools, tuition centers, and professional bodies across the nation.
In June 2026, Acad AI powered the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Benin Branch, scholarship examination across 13 public schools in Edo State. Before then, the platform had also been piloted in institutions including BZMC, Nigerian Tulip International Colleges (Abuja), Kayron International School, Franklin International College, and Seaba College, among others.

Acad AI Makes Every Step of Assessment Faster and Easier

For a teacher, the pressure of assessment starts long before the first script is marked. There are questions to set, exams to invigilate, hundreds of answers to grade, scores to record, feedback to prepare and results to format.
Each task takes time. Together, they can take days. But the good news is Acad AI slashes the workload at each step by up to 95%.

Setting questions takes time. Acad AI helps cut that down.
Lecturers can upload questions they have already created in almost any format, or upload their lecture notes and let Acad AI generate an assessment from them. It uses Bloom’s Taxonomy to create questions across different levels of learning, while the lecturer remains in control of what eventually gets sent to students. They can review, edit, remove or add questions before publishing.

Invigilating does not have to mean being in the room.
Acad AI allows lecturers to administer assessments online, with anti-malpractice measures that help protect the integrity of the exam. Depending on the institution’s setup, these can include tab-switch detection, full-screen lockdown and camera proctoring, allowing students to take exams remotely without leaving the lecturer to manually monitor every screen.

Hundreds of scripts no longer have to mean hundreds of hours.
Acad AI grades multiple choice, fill-in-the-gap, mathematics, essay, and theory questions using the lecturer’s marking guide and rubric. Lecturers can see how each score was reached, review the assessment and override any grade when necessary. Instead of replacing the lecturer’s judgement, Acad AI handles the repetitive work while keeping the lecturer in control.

Feedback can happen without writing hundreds of comments.
Acad AI generates personalised feedback for students based on their performance, helping them understand what they got right and where they need to improve. What would normally require hours of writing can happen alongside the grading process.

Even the final paperwork becomes easier.
Once marking is complete, without Acad AI, lecturers will have to calculate scores, organise results and prepare them for students or their institution. But that step is completely eliminated with Acad AI because it brings the results together in a structured format that can be reviewed and exported in one click.
The value is not just that Acad AI marks exams faster. It helps reduce the workload across the entire assessment cycle, so lecturers can spend less time managing exams and more time teaching, researching, and supporting their students.

Built for the reality of schools

For a school or learning institution, assessment is not just a lecturer or teacher marking scripts. It involves coordinating different subjects, classes, teachers, exam schedules, and student records, often while trying to get results out on time.
This is where Acad AI goes beyond helping individual educators. The platform gives schools a central system for managing the assessment process, from setting and administering exams to grading, reporting, and keeping student records organised. With Acad AI:

Schools can manage exams more easily. Teachers can create assessments from scratch, upload existing questions or build from a shared question bank. Exams can also be scheduled across multiple days, making it easier to coordinate different classes and subjects without relying on scattered spreadsheets and documents.

They can run more secure assessments. Acad AI’s anti-malpractice tools help schools protect the integrity of online examinations, with features such as full-screen lockdown and camera proctoring available for institutions that need additional supervision.

Teachers spend less time marking. Acad AI can grade objective and open-ended assessments, including multiple choice, fill-in-the-gap, mathematics, essays and theory. It can also support assignment marking, helping reduce the manual workload that builds up across the term.

Your Certificate Is Not Enough! Your Certificate Is Not Enough! Your Certificate Is Not Enough!

Results become easier to manage. Once assessments are marked, Acad AI can bring the scores together with offline results already held by the school. Administrators can then generate customised report cards with a single click instead of manually transferring marks into templates.
And because schools often already have systems they rely on, Acad AI can integrate with learning platforms such as Moodle or Canvas where required.
The goal is not simply to put exams online. It is to give schools one place to manage the work that happens before, during, and after an assessment, while giving teachers more time to focus on teaching and students.
