Twenty-five days after Dr. Idowu Akinrosoye was elevated from Head of the Department of Mass Communication to Dean of the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (FICT), Osun State Polytechnic (OSPOLY), Iree, the institution has appointed Dr. Aderemi Adeagbo as the new Head of the Department of Mass Communication.
A source within the department who spoke to our correspondent confirmed this appointment.
“He said the man (referring to Dr Adeagbo) has received his letter of appointment and will resume office immediately. No ongoing process other than that” sic
The appointment marks the completion of a leadership transition that began with Akinrosoye’s election Dean, creating a vacancy in one of the Polytechnic’s most prominent academic departments. Adeagbo’s appointment was confirmed on Thursday, August 6, bringing to an end weeks of speculation over who would succeed the former Head of Department.
Before his appointment, Dr. Adeagbo served as a Senior Lecturer in the department and was widely regarded by colleagues and students as the most likely successor to Akinrosoye.

The transition also signals the beginning of a new era for the Department of Mass Communication, which has witnessed significant academic growth over the years. Under Akinrosoye’s leadership, the department strengthened its academic profile, produced graduates making remarkable contributions to journalism and strategic communication, and expanded its visibility within and outside the Polytechnic.

Like his predecessor, Adeagbo brings a wealth of academic experience to the office. He is recognised for his commitment to teaching, mentorship and research. In 2024, he graduated as the Overall Best Ph.D. graduate of Adeleke University, Ede, a feat that further reinforced his reputation as one of the institution’s outstanding scholars.
The appointments of Akinrosoye and Adeagbo also underscore OSPOLY’s continued reliance on experienced academics to drive leadership within its communication education programmes. While Akinrosoye now assumes broader responsibilities as Dean of FICT, Adeagbo is expected to consolidate on the achievements recorded in the department and provide strategic leadership for staff and students.
