The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has once again demonstrated its leadership in research and innovation management with the launch of the **ITMO Chatbot**, a fully digitised intellectual property (IP) and patent registry — the first of its kind in any Nigerian higher institution.
Developed by the Innovation and Technology Management Office (ITMO) under the Office of the **Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), the ITMO Chatbot marks a major milestone in how intellectual property resources are accessed, managed, and utilised within the university community.
The new digital platform provides staff and students with direct access to intellectual property resources, including guides for completing IP forms, information on innovation hubs, and updates from the UNILAG patent registry. The chatbot can be accessed via **[https://itmobot.unilag.edu.ng](https://itmobot.unilag.edu.ng).
Supported by the International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) through the Technology Transform Grant Team, the initiative reinforces UNILAG’s commitment to promoting innovation, creativity, and research commercialisation across Nigeria’s higher education sector.
Speaking on the development, the university’s management described the project as a bold step toward building a robust innovation ecosystem that encourages researchers and students to protect and commercialise their creative outputs.
With this pioneering move, UNILAG continues to strengthen its reputation as a centre of excellence in technology management and innovation, further positioning itself as a model for other tertiary institutions in Nigeria and beyond.
