Subuloye Baale Isaac, an alumnus of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has been honoured with the Graduate Dean’s Citation Award for Excellence at the University of Northern Colorado (UNC), United States, in recognition of his outstanding academic performance.
Isaac received the prestigious award after successfully completing his Master’s degree in Chemistry with Distinction, a milestone achieved as part of the academic requirements for his ongoing Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme.
The Graduate Dean’s Citation Award for Excellence, established in 1984, is one of the highest academic honours at the University of Northern Colorado. It is awarded to graduate students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and scholarly excellence during their course of study.
Speaking on the achievement, Isaac described the journey as demanding but deeply rewarding, noting that it was shaped by perseverance, sacrifice, and faith. He reflected on periods of uncertainty and intense academic pressure, stating that resilience and grace sustained him through the process.
“This journey has been marked by bold steps, unexpected turns, and challenges that tested my resolve. Through it all, God proved faithful and made a way where there seemed to be none,” he said.
Isaac expressed profound gratitude to his graduate school recommenders — Dr. Adekunle Ignatius Owokotomo, Dr. Gideon Idowu, and Dr. Matthew Ayorinde Adebayo — for their belief in his potential and their role in opening doors for his academic journey.
He also acknowledged the unwavering support of his parents, whom he described as the foundation of his success, as well as his partner, Jegede Fisayo, for her love, sacrifices, and encouragement throughout the journey.
In addition, Isaac appreciated colleagues, mentors, and friends who supported him along the way, including Dr. Aaron K. Apawu, Navid Ahmed Sadman, Kakra Benjamin, William Antwi, Fasuyi Francis Oluwafunsho, David Shelley, Melonie Bryant, Carmenza Leavitt, Aghamie Sunny, and others.

The achievement adds to the growing list of global academic recognitions earned by Nigerian scholars and further highlights the impact of FUTA alumni in international academic spaces.
Isaac described the honour as a reminder that the journey is only beginning, noting that it represents growth, resilience, and hope for greater milestones ahead.
