Efforts to improve access to basic education in Lagos received a boost as the Lagos State Government inaugurated a new junior secondary school in the Shogunle community of Oshodi-Isolo Federal Constituency I.
At the inauguration, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, represented by Mrs. Mojisola Yusuff, described the project as a significant step towards strengthening educational opportunities in the area.
According to him, the new school reflects the government’s commitment to providing quality education that equips students with essential skills and values, while also investing in infrastructure and teacher development to improve learning outcomes.
The lawmaker representing Oshodi-Isolo Federal Constituency I, Bashiru Dawodu, who facilitated the project, said the intervention was necessary to address challenges faced by students who previously travelled long distances to attend school.
He noted that such journeys exposed students to risks, including road accidents, adding that the new school would provide safer and more convenient access to education for children in the Shogunle community.
The Shogunle Junior Secondary School is equipped with 10 fully furnished classrooms and is expected to commence academic activities in the 2026/2027 session.
As part of the initiative, Dawodu also distributed compendiums of JAMB and WAEC past questions and answers to students preparing for external examinations within the constituency.
The Baale of Shogunle, High Chief Ajisegiri, commended the project, stating that it would enhance safety and encourage regular school attendance among children in the community.
The development underscores ongoing efforts to bridge educational gaps and bring learning closer to underserved communities across Lagos State.
