📚 Scholarship Details
The scholarship provides funding for highly motivated graduate students to join the Department of Agronomy under the supervision of Dr. Colin Tobin (Assistant Professor, Range Management).
The research program focuses on applied rangeland ecology and livestock grazing systems across the Great Plains. Selected candidates will contribute to ongoing and emerging research areas, including:
Livestock foraging behavior and grazing distribution
Targeted grazing for invasive species management
Precision livestock technologies (e.g., GPS collars, virtual fencing, remote sensing)
Fire–grazing interactions in grassland ecosystems
Integrated livestock and wildlife systems
Successful applicants will be expected to develop independent research projects while contributing to collaborative field-based studies. Interdisciplinary collaboration opportunities are available in areas such as ecology, soil science, animal science, and data analytics.
✅ Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
Hold a B.Sc. degree (for M.S. applicants) or M.Sc. degree (for Ph.D. applicants) in agronomy, ecology, animal science, natural resources, wildlife biology, or related disciplines
Demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills
Show interest in field-based research and quantitative data analysis
Possess the ability to work both independently and within a team
Be willing to work in challenging field conditions and rugged environments
Additional skills in GIS, drone technology, livestock systems, or statistical software are considered an advantage but are not mandatory.
