President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe, as the Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Universities Commission (NUC).
The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.
Professor Ogundipe, a renowned academic and former Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG, succeeds Emeritus Professor Peter Okebukola, who previously chaired the commission’s governing board.
The National Universities Commission is the regulatory body responsible for overseeing and coordinating university education in Nigeria, ensuring quality assurance, accreditation, and adherence to academic standards across the country’s universities.
The appointment is expected to strengthen the commission’s efforts toward advancing higher education reforms, improving university governance, and enhancing the quality of tertiary education in line with the Federal Government’s educational development agenda.
Professor Ogundipe is widely respected for his contributions to academia and university administration, having served in various leadership capacities within Nigeria’s higher education sector.
