The Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences (FUTES), Iyin Ekiti, recently announced that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has increased its admission quota to 3,300 students.
Here are five key things to know about the development.
1. JAMB Has Increased the University’s Admission Quota
According to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Gbenga Aribisala, the university can now admit up to 3,300 students.
He attributed the increase to the progress recorded by the institution since it began academic activities in January 2026.
2. The University Started with 1,564 Students
FUTES commenced academic activities with 1,564 students, 35 departments and four faculties.
The faculties are Natural and Applied Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Computing and Information Technology, and Environmental Sciences.
3. More Academic Programmes Are Planned
The university is planning to introduce new programmes, including Anatomy, Physiology, Nursing and Medicine.
Other proposed courses include Artificial Intelligence, Telecommunication Science, and Tourism and Hospitality Management.
4. Major Infrastructure Projects Are Underway
According to the Vice-Chancellor, development of the permanent site is ongoing.
The university has completed hostels at its take-off site and is constructing additional hostels at the permanent site.
Other projects include a 250-capacity ICT building, laboratory facilities, classroom furniture and solar power installations, with additional support from TETFund interventions.
5. Research and Innovation Are Part of the University’s Vision
The university says it is building a research-focused institution capable of addressing national challenges.
According to Aribisala, a team led by Dr Solomon Popoola recently secured an NRF research grant, while Senate President Opeyemi Bamidele has pledged ₦1 billion for research over the next five years.
The institution is also working with Morgan State University in the United States on research collaboration initiatives.
