The management of Beautiful Beginning Academy, Gudu District, Abuja, has dismissed allegations of bullying captured in a viral video involving senior students.
Recall that Edutimes Africa reported the story.
The video, showing an SS2 student with a chain around his neck surrounded by SS3 students, sparked outrage after surfacing online.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, the school principal, Aaron Ipke, clarified that the incident was a staged performance by the students, misconstrued as bullying. “Categorically, I will state that there was no bullying case here at BBA. What you saw was a make-believe act carried out by the students in their hostel,” Ipke stated.
He emphasised that the video was recorded using a school-provided device, and other students were present during the event. “If this were truly bullying, it’s implausible that none of the students watching would have reported it, given our open-door policy.”
The principal also expressed shock over the family’s allegations. “In our 14 years of operation, we’ve never encountered a case of this nature. It’s surprising the family didn’t bring their concerns to us earlier,” he added.
The school assured the public of its commitment to fostering a safe environment for students while urging caution in interpreting online content.
