Babcock University Pledges Commitment to Founders’ Vision at ACWA/ASWA Reunion

President/Vice Chancellor of Babcock University, Professor Afolarin Olutunde Ojewole, has reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to upholding the ideals of its founders while driving academic excellence, spiritual growth and global impact.

Speaking at the opening of the Adventist College of West Africa (ACWA)/Adventist Seminary of West Africa (ASWA) Reunion on Tuesday, Professor Ojewole said Babcock would continue to advance the ideas that inspired its establishment.

“Babcock University will continue to advance the ideas that inspire its founders and remain committed to academic excellence, spiritual development, research, innovation, entrepreneurship and global relevance,” he said.

Represented by the Vice President, Advancement and Development, Dr. Olaniyi Arije, the Vice Chancellor described the reunion as more than a gathering.
He said it offered alumni the chance to reconnect and recommit to shared values.

“The event offers an opportunity to strengthen old bonds, create new connections and renew our collective commitment to the values that have united us across generations,” Professor Ojewole stated.

He expressed hope that the conversations, memories and fellowship at the reunion would deepen alumni appreciation for the university’s journey.

“I envision that the conversations we will share, the memories we will relive, and the fellowship we will enjoy will deepen our appreciation for the journey we have made so far,” he added.

Delivering a paper titled “Strategic Financial Management: Advancing Sustainable Growth Through Alumni-Alma Mater,” guest speaker and Professor of Accounting at Lead City University, Professor Godwin Oyedokun, said strategic financial management is not limited to corporate organisations but also applies to alumni associations and personal life.

Professor Oyedokun urged alumni to be deliberate in spending. “You have to be wise enough and strategic about how your income is spent if you are to realise any positive net effect of it. Whatever you want to spend, do it with a sound decision”, he said, noting that universities and alumni must also be strategic in project management and tuition/fees.

The don stressed the need for programmes that unite alumni across generations.
He described university alumni as “the greatest strategic assets as well as co-creators of the university,” charging them to “always advocate for academic excellence by speaking up and pushing for inclusion in the affairs or policies of the institution.”
Chairman of Babcock University Alumni Association (ACWA/ASWA 1975-2002 Sets), Dr. Abimbola Fagbe said the gathering was not only about reconnecting with old friends and celebrating a shared history but also reaffirming unwavering commitment to the future of their alma mater.

She urged members to be committed to reaching out, encouraging active participation and building a vibrant network that future generations would be proud to inherit.

The ACWA/ASWA Reunion brought together former students to celebrate their shared history and reflect on the role of Babcock University in shaping leaders with character and service.
