The Federal Government has given publishers, authors and other stakeholders in Nigeria’s book industry one final opportunity to submit textbooks and instructional materials for the 2026 Phase I assessment, reassessment and ranking exercise, extending the deadline to August 7, 2026.
The extension, announced through the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), is expected to widen participation in the national textbook evaluation exercise while allowing more eligible participants to complete their submissions.
According to the council, the new deadline replaces the earlier July 3, 2026 closing date and has been approved by the Federal Ministry of Education to ensure broader participation in the exercise.
In a statement, the Executive Secretary of NERDC, Prof. Salisu Shehu, said the extension was granted to provide publishers, authors and other stakeholders with an additional opportunity to submit materials for assessment.
“This final extension is being granted to ensure broader participation and provide publishers, authors, and other eligible stakeholders with an additional opportunity to complete and submit their materials for participation in the 2026 Phase I textbook assessment, reassessment, and ranking exercise,” the statement read.
The Federal Government urged intending participants to use the final submission window to ensure their materials are considered, stressing that every entry must comply with the approved Textbook Quality Indicators and Submission Guidelines, which remain available on NERDC’s official website.
However, the government made it clear that the latest extension is the last.
“No further extension will be granted, and late submissions received after the final deadline will not be accepted under any circumstances,” the council warned.
The government also appreciated publishers, authors and other stakeholders for their continued support and cooperation, urging them to submit their materials promptly to facilitate a smooth assessment and ranking process.
The National Textbook Ranking System is one of the Federal Ministry of Education’s key reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at improving the quality of textbooks used in Nigeria’s basic and secondary schools by promoting high standards in instructional materials.
