A former student of the Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) has captured hearts online with a powerful and emotional appeal to save his former lecturer, Mr Oluseyi Ogungbe, who is battling kidney failure.
Modiu Olaguro, who studied under Mr Ogungbe during his NCE days, shared a heartfelt message across social media platforms, praising the lecturer’s discipline, integrity, and lasting impact on his students.
He revealed that Mr Ogungbe urgently requires N19 million for a kidney transplant—of which N12 million has already been raised, leaving a shortfall of N7 million.
“The lecturer who impacted me the most during my time at LASUED is now fighting for his life,” Olaguro wrote. “Mr Ogungbe of the Physics Department is one of the most disciplined, professional, and humane individuals I’ve ever known.”
He described the lecturer as a rare blend of firmness and compassion, noting how even the most unserious students took him seriously.
“He never disrespected us. Always punctual, always diligent, soft-spoken but firm. He’s too disciplined to be forgotten.”
In a plea to the public, Olaguro urged Nigerians to contribute, no matter how little. “His family has kept this battle private for years. But it would be a great injustice to let him die in silence after all the good he’s done,” he added. “Even one naira can go a long way.”
He further shared that Mr Ogungbe’s condition has deteriorated, saying he was too heartbroken to share a recent photo of him. “He has suffered,” he wrote.
A GoFundMe link has been made available for international donors, while local contributions can be made directly to Mr Ogungbe’s wife’s account, details of which are provided in the comment section of the appeal post.
Olaguro also encouraged donors to send their payment proof to him via Messenger, so he can follow up with the family through his sister, Ab Sherifah Ab, a colleague of the lecturer’s wife.
Mr Ogungbe’s story has since sparked reactions across educational and social platforms, with many former students and well-wishers praising his legacy and urging the public to come to his aid.
