The Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, has assured residents that public schools in the state will resume the 2025/2026 academic session with significantly improved facilities and better educational policies.
Speaking during a two-day enrollment campaign in the Egba and Yewa regions, Arigbabu emphasized the government’s continued commitment to education, describing it as a top priority of the current administration.
According to the commissioner, the state undertook extensive renovation works during the holidays, including the rehabilitation of classrooms, laboratories, and libraries—many of which are now equipped with modern learning tools. New furniture has also been supplied to various schools to ensure a more conducive environment for both teaching and learning.
He also encouraged parents of children with disabilities to enroll them in any of the state’s five Special Needs Schools, assuring that adequate resources have been provided to guarantee inclusive and quality education for all.
“Our enrollment drive is yielding positive results. More children are taking advantage of the free education initiative. No child should be seen roaming the streets while schools are in session,” Arigbabu said.
Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Olalekan Ifede, and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko, reiterated that Ogun State operates a free education policy. They warned that no school should impose fees or levies on pupils.
Traditional rulers also lent their voices in support of the campaign. The Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle (represented by Chief Babatunde Yinusa), and the Olu of Siun, Oba Lawrence Adeyinka, urged parents to leverage the free education policy to secure their children’s futures, describing education as the greatest legacy any parent can provide.
Leaders from various community and market groups, including the State PTA Chairman, Olusegun Folorunso; Babaloja of Lafenwa Market, Musa Adeyinka; and the Iyaloja of Yewa South, Mrs. Bolanle Idowu, expressed appreciation to Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration for its transformative impact on the education sector. They pledged their continued support for government efforts to ensure all children in the state have access to quality education.
