The Students’ Union of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), has cautioned against any planned protest or gathering within the school premises, warning that no group will be allowed to disrupt peace and academic activities on campus.
In a statement released on Sunday by the SUG President, James Adio; General Secretary, Ayorinde Alao; and Public Relations Officer, David Abiola, the union specifically warned the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ekiti State chapter, to suspend its planned protest slated for Monday, November 3, 2025.
The NYCN had earlier threatened to stage a mass protest at FUOYE’s main campus over alleged abuse of office by the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina. The group said it would even relocate its state office to the campus until its demands were met.
But the FUOYE SUG, in a strongly worded statement titled “Letter of Resistance and Warning Against National Youth Council of Nigeria Protest Within FUOYE,” said the university would not be turned into a “theatre of protests and gatherings.”
“FUOYE is an academic environment dedicated to learning and development, not a ground for political mobilisation or agitation,” the statement read.
The union warned that any attempt to go ahead with the protest would attract “dire consequences,” adding that it would work with the university management and security agencies to maintain peace on campus.
It urged the NYCN to explore peaceful and lawful ways of addressing its concerns rather than confrontation.
“Any disregard for this warning will be seen as provocation and trespass,” the statement added. “We remain committed to peace, stability, and dialogue in the pursuit of progress.”
