The Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) has inducted the second batch of graduates of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Nasarawa State.
A total of 74 graduates were inducted in a ceremony held at the university’s premises on Wednesday in Lafia.
Six of the graduates bagged first-class degrees, with Rindap Tangwang Yero, a 28-year-old indigene of neighbouring Plateau State from Langtang North Local Government Area, emerging as the overall best graduating student with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.73.
At the induction and oath-taking ceremony, Dr Donald Ofili, the Registrar/CEO of MLSCN, advised the new professionals to uphold integrity, avoid misconduct, refrain from falsifying logbooks during internship, and adhere strictly to the Council’s code of conduct.
Ofili, who was represented by Dr Akinwale Akinlabi, informed the new inductees of the broad ethical landscape of modern laboratory practice, including confidentiality, conflicts of interest, malpractice, and the influence of artificial intelligence on diagnostics.
He urged the inductees to prioritise trust, integrity, competence, and conscientiousness as central pillars of their professional lives.
Speaking earlier, the university’s Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences Laboratory, Professor Surajudeen A. Junaid, said that the graduating students had undergone rigorous training and mandatory laboratory postings, which qualified them to be inducted into the profession.
Highlights of the ceremony included the administration of professional oaths to the inductees, issuance of practising licenses, and presentation of awards to the best graduates.
