The Osun State Ministry of Education has suspended all activities of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in public and private schools across the state with immediate effect.
The directive, contained in a circular dated July 1, 2026, and signed by the Permanent Secretary, M.A.K. Jimoh, said the suspension would remain in force until further notice.
According to the ministry, the decision is aimed at strengthening coordination, streamlining engagements, and ensuring that all external interventions in schools align with the state’s education policies, priorities, and established procedures.
The circular stated that no NGO would be permitted to conduct programmes, projects, campaigns, outreaches, training, awareness activities, or distribute cash, materials, or any other form of intervention in any public or private school during the suspension period.
School administrators, proprietors, principals, and headteachers were directed not to grant access or approval for any NGO activity until the directive is lifted.
The ministry added that requests for exemption would only be considered with the prior written approval of either the Commissioner for Education or the Permanent Secretary.
The circular was addressed to key stakeholders, including the Commissioner for Education, Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, executive secretaries and directors in the education sector, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), ANCOPSS, AOPSHON, private school owners, Catholic mission schools, and boards of governors, urging strict compliance with the directive.
