Music and football will take centre stage on Sunday as Nigerian Afrobeats star Burna Boy and Colombian singer Shakira prepare to perform at the first-ever FIFA World Cup final halftime show.
Ahead of the historic performance, Burna Boy shared a video on his X account showing the two global stars exchanging smiles, laughter and a warm embrace during rehearsals at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, United States.
Captioning the post, the Grammy-winning artiste wrote: “Sunday Prep! @shakira See you at the @FIFAWorldCup Final! Dai dai, ikó, dale, allez, let’s go!”
The clip, which also included photos, captured both singers in casual outfits outside the production trailers as they prepared for the show.
FIFA had earlier confirmed that Burna Boy and Shakira will perform Dai Dai, the official song of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, during the tournament’s first-ever Super Bowl-style halftime show.
To accommodate the performance, the traditional 15-minute halftime break is expected to be extended to about 30 minutes, combining the usual match analysis with an 11-minute entertainment segment.
According to FIFA, the show will also feature performances and appearances from BTS, Madonna, Justin Bieber, conductor Gustavo Dudamel, the PS22 Chorus with Coldplay, as well as characters from Sesame Street and The Muppets.
Beyond entertainment, FIFA said the halftime show will also support global education initiatives for children.
Sunday’s World Cup final will see defending champions Argentina take on Spain in what promises to be one of the biggest sporting events of the year.
Burna Boy and Shakira previously performed Dai Dai during the tournament’s opening ceremony in Mexico City, where the song was unveiled as the official anthem of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
For many young Nigerians, Burna Boy’s appearance on one of football’s biggest stages reflects the growing global influence of African music and the increasing recognition of Nigerian talent on the world’s biggest platforms.
