President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the recruitment process for 3,252 verified Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) teachers into the Federal Public Service, a move the Federal Government says will strengthen teaching and improve learning outcomes in Federal Unity Colleges.
The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, described the approval as a landmark intervention that demonstrates the President’s commitment to revitalising Nigeria’s education sector and investing in the country’s future.
According to the Minister, the recruitment will address the longstanding shortage of teachers in Federal Unity Colleges while recognising the dedication of PTA teachers, many of whom have served in the schools for nearly 25 years.
“This is a President who cares deeply for Nigeria and for the future of our country,” Alausa said.
“The President has approved the recruitment of teachers. Priority will be given to absorbing verified PTA teachers, many of whom have served in our Federal Unity Colleges and Federal Technical Colleges for almost 25 years. This approval provides them with the opportunity to become part of the mainstream public service.”
He explained that the approval followed a comprehensive verification exercise conducted by an Inter-Ministerial Committee, which confirmed the eligibility of 3,252 teachers across the cadres of Education Officers, Assistant Education Officers and Technical Instructors.
The Minister noted that integrating the experienced teachers into the Federal Public Service would preserve institutional knowledge, improve classroom instruction and enhance the quality of education in Federal Unity Colleges.
He added that the recruitment forms part of the Federal Government’s broader education reform agenda aimed at improving teacher quality and repositioning Federal Unity Colleges as centres of academic excellence.
Alausa assured the verified PTA teachers that the Ministry of Education would work closely with relevant government agencies to complete the remaining statutory processes required for their formal appointment in line with public service regulations.
He also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for approving the recruitment process, describing the decision as further evidence of the administration’s commitment to placing education at the centre of national development.
According to the Minister, investing in teachers remains critical because no education system can rise above the quality of its teachers.
He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to implementing policies that strengthen the teaching profession, improve learning outcomes and ensure that every learner in Nigeria’s Federal Unity Colleges receives quality education from qualified and motivated teachers.
