The Access Bank Polo Tournament, in partnership with Fifth Chukker and UNICEF, has raised over $3 million to empower underprivileged children through education.
The annual charity event, which has become a cornerstone for educational development in Nigeria, has positively impacted the lives of more than 12,000 children EduTimes Africa learnt.
Held at the Access Bank Fifth Chukker Model School in Maraban-Jos, Kaduna State, the tournament’s objectives include constructing 120 classroom blocks, providing essential resources, and supporting UNICEF’s educational intervention programs.
So far, over 60 classroom blocks have been completed, with 60 more under development.
During the 2024 edition, key stakeholders such as Access Holdings Plc’s Non-Executive Chairman Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede and Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani participated in unveiling the new blocks. Governor Sani commended the initiative, highlighting its role in advancing quality education and sustainable development in the region.
“Our commitment goes beyond raising funds. We are creating sustainable impacts that improve lives and empower communities,” said Roosevelt Ogbonna, Managing Director/CEO of Access Bank Plc.
The event also featured vibrant moments, including polo matches where Access Bank’s team emerged victorious against Fifth Chukker, with Sayyu Dantata named Most Valuable Player. Beyond the games, the initiative showcased its contributions to the community, such as providing boreholes, sewing machines, and vocational training tools.

Since its inception, the tournament has not only rebuilt schools but also enhanced the educational environment with computer literacy centers, safer infrastructure, and extracurricular opportunities for students.
