Description:

  • To maintain harmonious employee relationships amongst the Shipboard Officers and Ratings by liaising with the Fleet managers, Manning Agencies, appropriate Unions and Employers Associations, Regulatory bodies and in consultation with the Head Employee relations of Nigeria LNG Limited to ensure continuous availability of shipboard personnel for sea service.

The duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist in promoting harmonious relationships between the Company and the Industrial unions, NIMASA, ITF, ILO, MWUN and ensure Personnel and Company’s representation with appropriate unions/bodies.
  • Initiate the review of Shipboard Officers Conditions of Service periodically in line with the CBA and current realities emergent from international survey of Conditions of Service.
  • Monitor the provision of Nigerian Rating Manpower Services for vessels managed by NSML and participates in the collective bargaining process of the ratings with relevant authorities.
  • Assist in evaluating the performance of staff, investigate issue/prepare disciplinary/grievances case files for senior management approval and implement decision for improved performances.
  • Enquire into and gather Industry/Market intelligence on Shipping/Maritime matters globally and recommend mitigating measures for coping with changes to Management consideration.
  • Assist in the development of guidelines and procedures and equitable application of same for the management of NSML’s seafarer’s rights and obligations of the various International Labor Organization Laws, Merchant Navy Code of Conduct, Fleet Management Agreements, Memoranda of Understanding, and Training Agreements.
  • Maintain an efficient personnel records system and provide requested documentation for employees and Management as required in line with data privacy regulations and company policies.
  • Serves as internal consultant and communication focal person for shipboard personnel.
  • Manage third party manpower service providers and conducts periodic employee engagement surveys

Qualifications and Requirements:

The right candidate should:

  • Possess a university first degree with a minimum of Second-Class Upper (2.1) Division.
  • Possess a professional HR certification from CIPM, CIPD, SHRM or equivalent.
  • Have 5 – 7 years post-graduation experience in HR functions in a unionised environment.
    Cognate experience in the Maritime, Oil and Gas, FMCG or Logistics industry will be an added
    advantage.
  • Possess good communication, negotiating and interpersonal skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of labour laws, collective bargaining agreements, and dispute resolution
    strategies.
  • Be a Self-starter
  • Be fluent in English Language
