Nigeria President discharges Minister of Education among others in cabinet shake-up
Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, has discharged the Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, in a major cabinet reshuffle.
The presidency shared this via a statement on Wednesday afternoon.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR has approved the immediate implementation of eight far-reaching actions to reinvigorate the Administration’s capacity for optimal efficiency pursuant of his commitment to deliver on his promises to Nigerians,” the Presidency stated.
The announcement, made following the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting saw the removal of four other ministers.
Alongside Mamman, the affected ministers include Barrister Uju-Ken Ohanenye, Minister of Women Affairs; Lola Ade-John, Minister of Tourism; Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development; and Dr Jamila Bio Ibrahim, Minister of Youth Development.
The decision to remove the Minister of Education has drawn significant attention, with many expressing satisfaction over the development. “Nah, that education minister makes me happy the most,” Costa commented, reflecting widespread frustration over the perceived lack of progress in the education sector during Mamman’s tenure.
Another observer remarked, “I believe the education sector has not done much, and there is much to be done within the education space,” echoing calls for urgent reforms to address the challenges facing Nigeria’s schools and universities.
President Tinubu’s move to reshuffle the cabinet is seen as a step towards enhancing the effectiveness of his administration, with further appointments expected soon to fill the vacated positions.
